NEW YORK UNIVERSITY, NY, NY
Mondays, September 26th – December 12th, 2016
6:45pm to 9:05pm
Learn how to write effective and engaging comic essays. Course writing assignments develop the techniques that have made the comic essay one of the most popular genres of literature, intertwining the use of metaphor and simile, dialogue, character description, and exaggeration with moments of heartfelt sincerity. Read and analyze comic essays by current masters of the genre, including David Sedaris, Sarah Vowell, Augusten Burroughs, David Rakoff, and Nora Ephron. Later in the semester, meet one on one with the instructor to discuss your work.
